Acquisition of the publishing house Éditions des Plaines

Western Canada’s icon in French publishing, Les Éditions des Plaines, changes ownership at the dawn of their 30th anniversary

St. Boniface, October 2, 2008 — Western Canada‟s French Language publisher, les Éditions des Plaines, who will be celebrating their 30th anniversary in 2009, changes ownership effective November 1st, 2008.

Four well-known Winnipeg women have united their expertise to pursue the work of excellence achieved by this St. Boniface based publishing house. Ms. Joanne Therrien, a national best-selling author and owner of Vidacom Inc., will be the new President of Les Éditions des Plaines. Ms. Huguette Le Gall, recently retired from Radio-Canada as Director of Communications for television and radio and who has also been extensively involved in the city‟s arts and cultural scene will act as Editor-in-Chief. Ms. Barbara Bowes, President of Legacy Bowes Group, Manitoba‟s leading HR firm, the Free Press „Working World‟ columnist and CJOB Radio Host will act as Vice President of Strategic Partnerships. Ms. Annie Girard, a Communications Professional, is Assistant Executive Director at Agence nationale et internationale du Manitoba (ANIM) will join the ownership group as Vice President of Business Development.

“We are four dynamic women with a passion for literature embarking on a new and exciting adventure. We are determined to continue the great work of founders Annette Saint-Pierre and Georges Damphousse, and the current owners Sylvie Ross and Ernest Gautron, and bring Les Éditions des Plaines to the next level of excellence. One of our goals is to use leading edge technology in marketing our books and services” says Joanne Therrien.
Barbara Bowes adds, “When I heard about the opportunity to be part of Les Éditions des Plaines, Western Canada‟s icon in French publishing and translation, I jumped at it! As an author myself and as someone who values local resources, I am confident our new management team can take this fantastic franco-Manitoban publisher to the next level".

For Sylvie Ross, the sale of Les Éditions des Plaines concludes an eight-year history of award winning recognition by the St. Boniface francophone Chamber of Commerce and a stellar reputation for excellent service. Sylvie is thrilled that this successful publishing house has contributed to the cultural diversity and economic development in Manitoba and is pleased to transition her strong relationships with local and national clients, authors and the faithful readers of les Plaines to such a dynamic group of women.
